First let me say thank you, because we did it! Today, Senator Reid decided to pull the vote on the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate. In the House, Congressman Lamar Smith has also delayed any action on the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA). After the largest day of online action ever that saw tens of thousands of calls, millions of emails sent, and over 100,000 websites going dark in protest, it’s clear that our message got through.
There are many that say Washington is broken, because our elected officials don’t listen. This is evidence that’s just not the case. Over a dozen Senators and dozens of Members of the House came out against PIPA and SOPA. This was because of your emails and calls. We all spoke out and they listened…. for now. While the fight might have been on a hardcore, or insane, level, it was a fight that was worth it, because this issue is that big and that important.
While we might have completed this game, there’s a sequel I’m sure is being worked on right now. Like a bad horror movie creature, reading between the lines tells me that this is legislation will come back again and again. Hopefully we’ll now get a seat at the table while legislation is being drafted - not ignored.
